Intake Counselling Session - All New Clients
general counselling / counselling for counsellors / student counselling

1-to-1, Adult Clients, Virtual Session (online portal)

1 hr   I   $140   I   Telehealth Session

Service Description

First and foremost, this session is all about you. We'll start by discussing your reasons for seeking counselling and what you hope to achieve through our work together. This is an opportunity for you to share your thoughts, feelings and concerns in an empathetic, understanding, safe and confidential space.

I'll also provide you with some information about the counselling process and what you can expect from our sessions. We'll discuss practical matters such as scheduling, fees, confidentiality and consent to ensure you feel comfortable and informed.

Throughout the session, I'll take the time to get to know you better, asking questions to gain a deeper understanding of your unique experiences and needs. Together, we'll collaboratively explore your goals and develop a personalised counselling plan that suits your individual goals, needs and circumstances.

By the end of the intake session, my hope is that you'll feel empowered and supported to continue taking steps towards positive change that enables you to learn, grow and thrive.

Whether you have been referred by somebody to my services OR you have found your way here by yourself, you are welcome here and this counselling service is appropriate for you.

Sessions are available Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday - morning, daytime and evening appointments. If this availability does not suit you, please contact me to request an alternate time and I will see if I can accommodate that request; kristy@smallstepscounselling.com.au

Counselling Speciality: â€‹I have experience working 1-to-1 with adult clients experiencing concerns such as stress, anxiety, overwhelm, burnout, low mood or depression, life transitions, gender, sexuality or identity exploration, grief, loss, and/or trauma (lived experience or vicarious). When working with clients experiencing these concerns, I work from an Integrative therapeutic basis (multiple therapeutic styles), as well as incorporating psychoeducation (information) and somatic (body related) elements, as appropriate, to assist my clients with feeling more at ease in their mind and as well as their body (i.e. free from tension). In our first session or two, we'll identify which therapies and techniques will be best for your situation.

PLEASE NOTE: Whether you are a general counselling client, a student counsellor seeking support or a fellow counsellor seeking counselling - if you are a new client to my counselling service, please either book into an Intake Counselling Session or contact me with any questions you may have.

Counselling Session - Ongoing Clients
general counselling / counselling for counsellors / student counselling

1-to-1, Adult Clients, Virtual Session (online portal)

1 hr    I   $140   I   Telehealth Session

Service Description

Your ongoing counselling sessions are a continuation of the work we've begun together — a journey toward greater self-awareness, resilience and wellbeing, both personal and professional.

Each session is an opportunity for us to delve deeper into the issues you're facing, explore new insights, identify habits or patterns that may need altering and to develop suitable practical strategies to help you navigate any future challenges. You'll have the space to express yourself freely, knowing that you're in a safe and supportive environment.

We'll work together to address the issues that are important to you, using a combination of therapeutic techniques tailored to your individual needs. Whether we're exploring past experiences, working through current concerns, developing coping skills or setting goals for your future, your sessions will be focused on helping you move forward in a positive, productive direction.

Throughout our work together, I'll be here to provide guidance, support and encouragement - every step of the way. I'll actively listen to your concerns and offer insights and perspectives to help you gain clarity and insight.

Between sessions, I encourage you to reflect on our discussions and practice any skills or techniques we've discussed. Your active participation in the counselling process will enable you to make meaningful progress and achieve lasting change.

Remember, counselling is a journey, and progress may not always be linear (straight-forward). Sometimes we may need to go backwards in order to move forwards. But with consistency, persistence and support, you have the agency to create positive change in your life. I'm here to walk beside you, recognising your successes and supporting you through any setbacks you may encounter.

Sessions are available Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday - morning, daytime and evening appointments. If this availability does not suit you, please contact me to request an alternate time and I will see if I can accommodate that request; kristy@smallstepscounselling.com.au

'Talk & Tread' Counselling Session - Ongoing Clients ONLY
general counselling / counselling for counsellors / student counselling

1-to-1, Adult Clients, Designated Outdoor Location (Inner Nth Brisbane)

1 hr    I   $140   I   Outdoor Session

Service Description

You're probably familiar with the term "Walk and Talk" Therapy, which is a style of counselling that takes place outdoors rather than in a therapy room or online. 'Talk & Tread' is a term I've coined to describe my outdoor counselling sessions, as it felt a bit more inclusive to me, of the range of mobility considerations people may have. Whether your "tread" imprint is made via your feet, foot, walking aid, mobility device or mobility vehicles' tyres, we can cater our outdoor session/s to accommodate your movement needs.

Why Outdoor Therapy? Counselling in an outdoor setting offers several unique benefits that can enhance the therapeutic experience. Natural surroundings can provide a calming and grounding atmosphere, which helps to reduce feelings of stress and anxiety. While being in nature and moving your body can also promote a sense of calm and clarity that may encourage a more dynamic or less inhibited flow of conversation. A movement-oriented approach like 'Talk & Tread' can be particularly beneficial for those who find it difficult to sit still, feel confined in a traditional counselling space or feel uncomfortable with online telehealth platforms.

During a 'Talk & Tread' session, we position ourselves side by side while discussing the issues you’d like to address. This side-on positioning can make the counselling experience feel more relaxed and less formal, which helps some people feel more comfortable with opening up and/or less intimidated by the counselling process, as can sometimes happen in a face-to-face or online setting.

During a 'Talk & Tread' session the core elements of counselling— such as confidentiality, support and guidance —remain the same as a traditional session. However, as these sessions occur in a public domain, absolute confidentiality cannot be guaranteed. Clients should enter these sessions with the understanding that there's a chance a stranger may hear small snippets of what is being said. I will endeavour to maintain our distance and privacy from others as best I can.

PLEASE NOTE: A 'Talk & Tread' cannot be booked until an Intake Counselling Session has been completed and without agreement from me that this type of session may be suitable for you. Please email me with any questions, concerns or interest regarding 'Talk and Tread' Counselling - kristy@smallstepscounelling.com.au

Sessions are available for ongoing Brisbane-based clients upon agreement, with day and time to be negotiated, as suitable.

THERAPIST SUPPORT -

Peer Supervision Session
counsellors / student counsellors

1-to-1, One-Way Peer Supervision, Virtual Session

45 min  I   $90   I   Telehealth Session

Service Description

Peer supervision sessions offer a unique opportunity for counsellors (practicing or student) to connect with a peer and receive support, alternate opinion and insight into their professional practice.

Peer supervision sessions are designed for counsellors who are seeking a confidential, unbiased space to discuss any professional issues or challenges they may be facing. Whether you're grappling with complex cases, navigating ethical dilemmas, struggling with a case conceptualisation or simply seeking advice on best practices, these sessions provide a valuable opportunity to receive feedback and support from a fellow professional - who has experienced these concerns them self.

Our peer supervision sessions will be a supportive and nonjudgmental environment where you can freely express your thoughts, concerns and questions. My role is to simply to listen, encourage, help you explore your concerns, offer a different perspective or viewpoint if needed, based on my own knowledge and experience in the field.

During these sessions, you'll have the opportunity to identify strategies, brainstorm solutions and gain fresh insights into your practice. Together, we'll work collaboratively to ascertain areas for growth and development, ultimately helping you to become a more confident and competent counsellor.

It's important to note that peer supervision sessions are not about sharing personal experiences or seeking therapy. They're focused on professional development and growth, with a focus on enhancing your ability and knowhow as a counsellor. Equally of importance, these sessions are peer oriented. I am not a clinical supervisor. I am a fellow counsellor who is invested in making sure my colleagues have all the support they need, in order to thrive personally and professionally, practice effectively and enjoy career longevity.

Whether you're a student on placement, a newly graduated counsellor navigating your first year/s of practice or an experienced therapist looking to enhance your skills, peer supervision sessions offer a valuable opportunity for ongoing learning and support.

Unlike some peer supervision sessions, where sharing is reciprocal and time per person is limited, our sessions are one-way and solely dedicated to you and your continued professional improvement. I look forward to supporting you on your professional journey!

Sessions available on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday - morning, daytime and evening appointments. If this availability does not suit you, please contact me to request an alternate time/s and I will see if I can accommodate that request; kristy@smallstepscounsellingcom.au

NOTE: In-person 'Talk & Tread' peer supervision sessions may be available to on-going, Brisbane-based therapists.
